The JEE-Advanced test for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology has been postponed by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, the organization organizing the JEE Exam (Advanced) said today.

It has announced the postponement of the JEE Exam (Advanced) exams due to the second wave of Covid-19 disease in the country. The test was scheduled for July 3rd.

"In view of the prevalence of the epidemic due to COVID-19, JEE (Advanced) 2021 scheduled for July 03, 2021 (Saturday) has been postponed. The revised test date will be announced in due course," IIT Kharagpur said in a statement.

Admission to IITs, in addition to receiving the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) -Advanced, candidates are required to obtain at least 75 per cent marks in the 12th board exams or to place between the top 20 per cent on their eligible exams.

While JEE-Mains was gaining admission to engineering colleges across the country, it was considered a JEE-Advanced test.

"JAB (the IITs joint board) decided to do the bilingual test (Hindi and English) in 2021 as was previously the case," said Debashish Chakravarty, chair of JEE Advanced 2021 and IIT professor Kharagpur.

With the exception of India, it is possible to set up Advanced Dubai testing centres (UAE), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Kathmandu (Nepal) and Singapore, Chakravarty said.

The final decision on the testing of foreign institutions, if any, will depend on the epidemic conditions prevailing at the time of JEE Advanced 2021.

The test will reduce or exclude 75% board marking methods, but does not mean that even a student who earns 35% marks and does well in the JEE Advanced exam will be considered for admission to 23 IITs and other intermediate technology. and scientific institutions such as the Indian Institutes of Science and the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research.

“We are abandoning the 75% student support policy this year as they face a difficult academic year due to covid-19. This will benefit students, "said Chakravarty, adding that all the details will soon be available on their official website.

IIT Kharagpur will roll out JEE Advanced 2021 and will be a computer-based test.
