Three people died and one person is undergoing treatment at the district hospital after consumption of suspected spurious liquor in Khakhrai village in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur district, officials said on Sunday. The liquor was reportedly consumed on Thursday.
After the incident, excise department sub-inspector Narendra Damar was suspended for dereliction of duty. District collector Manoj Pushp and Superintendent of Police Siddharth Choudhary visited the village post the incident.
The police said the exact cause of deaths reported from Khakhrai village will only be known after the post-mortem reports come. Khakhrai village comes under Piplia Mandi police station area.
The three persons have been identified as Modiram Meghwal (41), Ghanshyam Mogia and Manohar Bagri (both 35).
POLICE ARREST ONE IN MANDSAUR HOOCH INCIDENT
As of now, the police have arrested one person for illegally selling liquor. A part of the house used for this work was demolished on Sunday night.
According to district collector Manoj Pushp, teams have been constituted for investigation into the case. He said all the responsible people will be arrested.
POLITICIANS REACT TO MANDSAUR HOOCH INCIDENT
The local MLA, Jagdish Devda, expressed grief over the incident. Devda, who is also the state’s Commercial Tax and Finance Minister, said necessary instructions regarding action against those responsible for the incident have been issued.
Meanwhile, state Congress chief Kamal Nath demanded a high-level probe into the case and financial assistance for the families of the deceased.
“After Ujjain, Morena, Bhind and Gwalior, there are reports that three persons died and some others are serious due to consumption of spurious liquor in Khakhrai village of Mandsaur district. This is the condition in the area represented by MP’s Excise Minister [Devda],” Nath said.
He asked when the state government would take action against the liquor mafia and said strict action should be taken.
