Independence Day 2021: On August 15, 1947, India gained independence, abolishing almost 200 years of British rule on the continent. This is a day of great pride for all Indians as we remember the sacrifices made by the millions of our freedom fighters, who gave their lives in the liberation struggle and their tireless efforts and patriotism, forcing the British empire to finally recede.
In addition, August 15 also marks the anniversary of the partition of India in India and Pakistan, which took place August 14-15, 1947. Let us not forget our roots and our history that led to this important day.
History and significance
India has had a long war and we are here celebrating freedom only because of the great sacrifices and sacrifices in Azad (free) in India by our great freedom fighters. It all started with the Battle of Plassey in 1757 when the British ruled India and the East India Company came to power in our country - often called the British Raj. Rule and slavery continued for almost a century. Our first attempt to gain independence in 1957 was unsuccessful and yet, the Indians did not lose heart and continued to struggle for national independence.
The struggles, hardships and non-violent campaigns during the liberation struggle are still remembered all over the world. People around the world are inspired by India's unchanging march to freedom. Some of India’s greatest freedom fighters, their courage and patriotism continue to inspire us to work for a prosperous and resilient India, including legends such as Mahatma Gandhi, Rani Lakshmi Bai, Bhagat Singh, Mangal Pandey, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Shashas and Chandra Bose and more.
We also had iconic leaders who firmly believe that “you are stronger than a sword” and wrote for freedom like Sarojini Naidu, B.R. Ambedkar, Rabindranath Tagore, Jyotibai Phule and many others.
It was an equal contribution for everyone - people who participated in the wars, people who wrote about discrimination and injustice, people who participated in every way - no matter how big or small their contribution. It was the joint effort of millions of people to lead us on the path to freedom!
On the eve of India's liberation, Jawaharlal Nehru, then Prime Minister, had stated in his speech "Tryst with destiny" - "At midnight, when the world is asleep, India will wake up alive and free."
The importance of the color Tri
Every year, on Independence Day, the Prime Minister of India raises a national flag at an ancient Red Fort monument in Delhi and delivers a speech to the nation, followed by a military parade. The President of India also delivered a speech. In honor of the event, twenty-one guns are fired on this day every year.
A three-color flag flies high in the sky, indicating that we now live in Swatantra Bharath (Independent India).
The colors of our national flag are very important and have a profound meaning. Did you know that the national flag was adopted in the same way as it was during the Constituent Assembly meeting on July 22, 1947, 23 days before the Indian Independence on August 15, 1947? Interestingly, the flag is made of an embroidered card made from Indian cotton as a symbol of nationality and freedom.
See its importance here:
Caesar (Saffron)
This color, high, represents the strength and courage of the world.
White
The white color of our flag symbolizes honesty, purity, and national peace.
Ashoka Chakra
The Ashoka Chakra is rendered blue with a white background instead of the charkha symbol of the pre-liberation flag symbol. The chakra means that there is life in walking and death in standing. It has 24 equally divided stocks.
Green
The green color below indicates the fertility, growth and fertility of the soil.
Is India celebrating the 74th or 75th Independence Day this year?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently launched the ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’ on 12 March 2021 in Gujarat to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India’s independence. Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav is basically a series of events that began on March 12, to celebrate the 75th week count to the 75th Independence Day of the nation. Mahotsav will only end on 15 August 2023.
The significance of this event is an emphasis on the glorious history of India and the highlight of India's progress since Independence. In addition, according to reports, according to government policy, the program will be held weekly under the ‘Azadi of Amrut Mahotsav’, in which, apart from the cultural department, many departments will participate in the event. In addition, arrangements will be made for all embassies in India outside the country.
However, there is one thing that remains unanswered. Yes, many official websites have cited 2021 as the 75th Independence Day and the Government of India seems to be planning to celebrate the 75th Independence Day in 2022. According to the official website of 'Azadi by Amrut Mahotsav', the Ministry of Culture, the Government of India stated that the celebrations of the 75th Independence Day will be held on August 15, 2022. However, the official administration of Independence Day falls on 15 August 2021 as -75.
If we go by a simple statistical calculation, India gained its independence in 1947 and if this takes place as a basic year:
2021-1947 = 74
So in this sense, we will be celebrating the 74th day of Freedom. However, if we start to look at 15 August 1947 as the first day of independence, then we will celebrate this year as the 75th Independence Day. According to Know India: National Portal of India, India will be celebrating its 75th anniversary of independence in 2021.
